About Sukkot

What is Sukkot?

The Feast of the Tabernacles was celebrated so that the children of God – The Nation of Israel, would remember that Yahweh brought them out of bondage in Egypt and delivered them into the Promise Land. While they were on the journey (sojourners) from Egypt to the Promise Land they lived in tents (tabernacles/booths).  Thus the Lord created the Feast of Tabernacles (Lev. 23) so that every year the Children of Israel would travel back to Jerusalem and stay in tents for the weeklong celebration.

Now that the law has been fulfilled and we are no longer “under the law” we are celebrating what God has done for us in Christ Jesus on the cross. Having believed, we are freed from the bondage of sin and guaranteed our inheritance in Heaven marked by the Holy Spirit (Eph 1:14). We are also sojourners, as this is not our home and we are on our journey to Glory.  May we journey together in our tents and celebrate the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for delivering us from sin and securing our inheritance in Glory.

Our prayer is that this will be a time for our families to come together to celebrate the presence of God with the family of God, the body of Christ.

How do we celebrate?

This weekend celebration is an opportunity for families to come together and worship Christ with other believers. We will be dwelling in booths (tents) at the Iron Horse Ranch in Brenham, TX just outside of College Station. Each year we hear a sermon from a Pastor on Friday evening and a Christian artist leads us in worship on Saturday evening. Previously, we have had Matt Chandler, from the Village Church in Dallas, and Dr. Matt Carter, from the Austin Stone Community Church, speak,. We have had the bands All Sons & Daughters and Passion as well as David Crowder and Matthew West perform.

And that's just during the evenings! The days are filled with family activities such as fishing, swimming, miniature golf, 3D archery, skeet shooting, tennis, basketball, zip-lining, sand volleyball and horseback riding! We come together in the "Tabernacle Lodge" to share breakfast, lunch and dinner with one another.
